Of compact proportions this is a rogue of a chest with a rough around the edges type of character and one whose appearance has changed very little since the time it was crafted

the other jar’s glass is in perfect condition with no paper label and having some of the decorative decoration missing to the peacocks and flowering scrolls

The asylum was intended to serve the pauper agricultural population of rural West Sussex and for this purpose the 370 acre Graylingwell Farm estate was acquired c 1894
