While specific requirements can vary by provider, clients are commonly considered good candidates if they meet one of the following criteria: A BMI of 30 or higher (classified as obesity) A BMI of 27 or higher with at least one weight-related health condition, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, or sleep apnea In addition, candidates should be in overall stable health, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and not have a personal or family history of certain medical conditions such as medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2 (Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 2)
